Plot[]
Volume 3[]
After the Special Anti-Grotesquerie Unit has received the order to immediately neutralize Gifted Communion followers' activity in an abandoned temple on the outskirts of the Imperial Capital, Yoshito heads there with his subordinates and orders them to encircle the temple. Upon his signal, they storm inside, but find it completely deserted. Suddenly, he hears a sizzling sound and spots a packed gunpowder with a lit fuse that hadn't been there previously. A moment later, the temple is consumed by a massive explosion.[3]
Volume 4[]
Yoshito suffered terrible burns in the explosion.[8] He was admitted to a military hospital, which is part of the military headquarters’ facilities, equipped with cutting-edge equipment and the empire’s most skilled doctors of all different fields in permanent residency.[9] His injuries are so severe that it takes a long time until he can have visitors. The doctors are trying every possible treatment they have. As a Gift-user, he is much harder than the average person, so there is no risk of him dying, but his wounds are still in a terrible state.[8] Yoshito's superior, Kiyoka Kudou is taking what had happened to him the hardest of anyone. His absence is also keenly felt in the unit. Given that he served as Kiyoka’s aide, he clearly has the strength to match. Kaoruko Jinnouchi is chosen by Kiyoka to fill Yoshito's shoes in his absence.[10] Kiyoka's fiancée, Miyo Saimori, also worries about him, as he helped her out in a variety of ways up until that point, and he is one of the few acquaintances she has. However, his wounds are not something he could show to a woman, so he is holding off from letting Miyo Saimori visit out of consideration for her.[8]
After some time passed, Yoshito is authorized to have visitors, which means that his condition has stabilized enough for him to see other people; he is on the mend. Because Yoshito has been stuck in bed for days on end, he’s bored out of his mind.[9]
