Technique (術法, Jutsu-hō?) refers to supernatural arts that a Gift-user can deploy.
Description[]
Techniques and Gifts are two completely different things. The strength of the Gift will vary according to the innate qualifications of the individual. Even if they do not have a specific Gift, as long as one has the ability to see Grotesqueries, Spirit-Sight, that person who can feel the "power" of non-human things, through learning and training, they will also become able to use techniques.[1]
Each technique user has different talents, so they will have techniques they are good at and not good at, and there will also be differences in the power of the techniques they use. However, whether they are people with Gifts or people with Spirit-Sight, this is the foundation they must learn first.[1]
Anyone with Spirit-Sight is capable of learning the supernatural technique of familiar manipulation.
As most women aren't expected to battle Grotesqueries themselves, not many cared about mastering paranormal crafts. Despite that, most, like Kaya are still capable of constructing a paper familiar and using Share-Sight to see through its eyes.[2] Other known techniques include opening barriers, curse technique, magic, magic removal technique, exorcism and onmyōjutsu.[1]
In the Special Anti-Grotesquerie Unit, all members possess Spirit-Sight. Out of them, there are only a few who possess other Gifts as well.[3] The majority of them are unable to use specific Gifts, but are proficient in the usage of techniques.
Some of these members participate in the analysis team's experiments.[1] Another known group of Gift-users known to employ techniques are the practitioners from the Ministry of the Imperial Household, who are able to use specialized magical apparatus[4] and erect exceptionally strong barriers.[5]
To use techniques, additional equipment may be used, such as the case of paper when creating paper familiars[2] or specialized magical apparatus to recover souls that escaped from the Burial Grounds.[4]
The knowledge about supernatural techniques and Gifts are still available in the old capital, compared to the imperial capital where they have fallen into obscurity.[6]
