Spirit-Sight (見鬼の才, Kenki no sai?) is the ability to see Grotesqueries.[1]
Description[]
The Spirit-Sight is the signature ability of the Gifted.[1] Children with Spirit-Sight sense supernatural creatures as early as in infancy. At first, they would catch only an odd glimpse of them now and again; sometimes they wouldn’t see anything at all.
By the age of five, their Spirit-Sight would develop fully, allowing them to consistently spot Grotesqueries. That is when their skills are finally acknowledged. However, sometimes a baby’s budding awareness of the supernatural would peter out, and they would never develop Spirit-Sight. As follows, if they are completely blind to the Grotesqueries when they are very young, it is a strong sign they were Giftless. The few exceptions to this rule are exceedingly rare.[2]
The people from the Usuba family are one of the few Gift-users that do not possess Spirit-Sight. The Gifts of the Usuba family target humans. They are supernatural abilities made for taking on people, and they work on both average people and Gift-users alike. The duty of the Usubas is to stop other Gift-users when required. They serve as deterrents against people with supernatural abilities, who could otherwise wield their tremendous power to bring ruin to everyone. The supernatural abilities of their line are specifically for defeating other Gift-users. Because the Grotesqueries are not their target, they don't have the need to see them and it’s quite normal for Gift-users in the Usuba family to be born without the Spirit-Sight.[3]
All members of the Special Anti-Grotesquerie Unit possess Spirit-Sight and often other paranormal powers as well. It is required for them to see the Grotesqueries in order to hunt them and dispatch them with supernatural attacks.[1]
