Sasaki (笹木, Sasaki?) is the caretaker and butler for the Kudou villa.
Appearance[]
Sasaki is an elderly man whose bright and gentle smile lends him the air of a genial old man. His overall appearance is neat and tidy. He is dressed in a swallow-tailed coat, and his hair is perfectly coiffed.[1]
History[]
At a certain point in his life, Sasaki began working for the Kudou family, along with his entire family. This includes his wife Nae, son, daughter-in-law Mitsu, and grandson, all of whom served as household staff for the Kudous. He still addresses the members of the family by their old titles, calling Tadakiyo Kudou "Master", despite him not being the head of the family anymore and his son Kiyoka Kudou "Master Scion".[1]
Plot[]
When Kiyoka and his fiancée Miyo Saimori comes to the countryside to visit the Kudou villa on Tadakiyo's invitation, Sasaki comes up to meet them at the train platform. He greets Kiyoka with "Master Scion" and Miyo with "Young Mistress", causing the latter to flush in embarrassment. When he praises Kiyoka for finding a beautiful wife, he accidentally addresses him with "Young Master", but plays dumb when Kiyoka questions it. They all board the automobile that Sasaki has parked outside the station, and Sasaki drives them to the villa.[1]
After they enter the villa, Sasaki stands by as Miyo introduces herself and faces the house's mistress Fuyu Kudou's harsh criticism. Like everyone else present, he watches the ensuing tense confrontation between Kiyoka and his mother with bated breath, looking worried that Kiyoka would really lose it over his mother’s abrasive remark. When Kiyoka leaves the scene with Miyo by going up the stairs, Sasaki hastily follows them and shows them their suite on the second floor. Once he finished bringing them their luggage inside the room, Sasaki bows once, tells them that if they need anything he shall take care of it and departs.[1] That night, Miyo panics when she realizes there is only one bed in the room. Kiyoka believes it must be his father setting things up like that or Sasaki is reading into things in a weird way.[1]
A few days later, while the Kudou family is having breakfast, Sasaki enters the dining room in a state of panic. He rushes inside with a red face and whispers something urgently to Tadakiyo, who receives the news calmly and nods in response. Both Tadakiyo and Kiyoka then follow Sasaki into the entry hall. Kiyoka inquires if Sasaki has any specific information about the situation, but Sasaki responds that he doesn't have the details, only that something concerning a fiend occurred early in the morning.[2]
