Saimori estate (齋森家宅邸, Saimori-ka taku-tei?) is an estate that formerly served as the residence of the Saimori family.

Description[]

The Saimori residence is located in the Imperial Capital,[1] in a part of the city where many wealthy families have their estates.[2] For example, the Tatsuishi estate is located nearby, so the children of both families have known each other since childhood.[1]

However, the Saimori residence stands out from all the rest. It is a large sprawling mansion in traditional Japanese style. Old yet opulent with an elegant exterior. It dates back to the era before this city became the capital.[2]

The building is made from wood and includes a maze of rooms and corridors. It has been designed so that every walkway offered a garden view. In days past, this kind of elaborate architecture immediately identified the wealthiest of families to onlookers.[3]

Surrounding the mansion is the main gate, which leads to the main house. Known places include:

  • Living room where the family eats.[1]
  • Reception room where the family receives guests. The room has a view of the well-maintained inner courtyard and the lush, pleasing pines contained within.[2]
  • Servants' quarters at the far end of the manor[4] where live-in servants resides. Miyo's room is in the servants' quarters.[3]
  • Courtyards, mostly small, with one larger rear garden. The rear garden could be accessed only from Miyo and Sumi's room. No one besides the servants who tidied it sporadically had set foot in the garden in many years, not even a gardener. Sumi's cherry blossom tree once bloomed in this garden, but it had been cut down after it had withered when Miyo was only a toddler, since Kanoko was there, with the stump never been removed. The stump had since died and turned gray, because of Minoru Tatsuishi fight with Kiyoka Kudou.[5]
  • Storehouse that was old and not much used. It is located in the garden, at the back of the residence and it could be barred from the outside.[3]

As the entire mansion was old, the walls are thin and don't offer much privacy anywhere in the estate.[3]

Plot[]

After Minoru Tatsuishi kidnapped Miyo, his son Kouji Tatsuishi informed Kiyoka Kudou and the two of them hurried to the Saimori Residence to rescue her. At arrival, Kiyoka used lightning to blast the main gate. After the gate, Minoru want to help Shinichi to put up a barrier, but Kiyoka breaks it. So, Minoru starts a duel using strong wind against Kiyoka while tearing most of the rooftops, but Kiyoka used lightning, which means that Minoru's powers is no match for Kiyoka's powers. In an another duel against Minoru, who used fire to attack them, Kiyoka applied a magical shield, causing the fire to spread to expand left and right of the barrier. The walls of the building caught fire and the conflagration quickly spread to engulf the inner courtyards, burning down trees, scorching grass.[3][6][7]

Afterwards, what remained of the Saimori residence are charred ruins. On Miyo's insistence, she and Kiyoka visited the ruins before they would be cleared away. The house in which she’d been born and raised had almost burned to the ground. Some foundations and pillars were still standing, but the rest had turned to ashes, so it was impossible to tell where one room ended and another began. Since the house had been leveled, it was possible to walk right over it. The two of them made their way to the garden based on Miyo's memories of the layout of the residence. The stump of the cherry blossom tree had burned to charcoal but still recognizable. It crumbled when Miyo touched it.[5]

As the residence is completely destroyed, Shinichi Saimori dismissed roughly half the servants, having lost the family fortune to the fire. He and his second wife Kanoko Saimori moved to a smaller residence in the countryside, forced to live on a lower living standards.[5]
