On New Year's Eve, following the Grand Purification ceremony, Takaihito convenes with Ookaito and Lord Keeper Takakura. He instructs them to keep the Emperor's disappearance under wraps and advises against launching a full-scale search to avoid drawing attention. Through Divine Revelation, he glimpses an impending snowy battle in the Imperial Capital and opts to conserve their strength for it. When questioned about the Emperor's safety, he believes it improbable that the Gifted Communion would go to such great length as kidnapping only to kill him. However, he bluntly expresses that he wouldn't mind if his father meets such a fate, much to the shock of the two men. The coexistence of the Emperor, who still holds the highest authority, and the next emperor, who wields actual power, complicates matters. When he inquires about the status of a certain matter, Masashi conveys the military's disagreement, and Takakura mentions that many bureaucrats and politicians, including the Minister of the Imperial Household, also oppose the decision. Despite understanding their concerns, Takaihito insists on his orders. After the two men depart, Takaihito reflects on his unstable revelation power, as he has yet to ascend the throne, leading to errors like the recent incident involving Miyo. He contemplates whether he has made the right decision this time.
