Father-in-Law and His Invitation (義父と招待, Gifu to Shoutai?) is the first of Volume 3 of the My Happy Marriage novel.
Summary[]
Miyo and Hazuki finish shopping for Miyo's Western-style clothing in the city. On their way back, they encounter Tadakiyo Kudou, who appears unwell. They escort him to Kiyoka's office, which is nearby, for some rest. Tadakiyo reveals that his visit was intended to surprise his children.
Not wanting to interfere Kiyoka's work anymore, they head to the Kudou main estate. Miyo musters the courage to inquire about the marriage proposal Tadakiyo arranged. He explains that he approached Shinichi Saimori through an acquaintance with a marriage proposal, gambling to see which one of the Saimori daughters would be sent to Kiyoka's house. Tadakiyo takes pride in his successful matchmaking but mentions that Kiyoka's mother, Fuyu, is less pleased with the situation.
Some time later, Kiyoka arrives at the estate and Miyo welcomes him. He asks her if Tadakiyo has made advances to her and when Miyo hesitates, Kiyoka angrily wants to burn his father to ashes, but Miyo manages to calm him down. During dinner, Tadakiyo invites Kiyoka and Miyo to visit his countryside villa, where he and his wife reside. Kiyoka reluctantly agrees due to a mission given to him by Takaihito. The mission involves investigating strange phenomena occurring in the area around a farming village that was close to the villa. Tadakiyo shares concerns about suspicious individuals near the villa and requests Kiyoka's assistance. While Kiyoka initially considers declining, Miyo's presence influences him to agree if he can spare the time. Though he detests his mother, he wants to try confronting her once more for Miyo's sake.
