Of Our Meeting and My Tears (出会いと涙と, Deai to Namida to?) is the first chapter of Volume 1 of the My Happy Marriage novel.

Summary[]

At the Saimori household, Miyo is treated like a servant despite the fact that she is the oldest daughter. This is because her stepmother Kanoko, her father's lover before his marriage to Miyo's mother, despises her mother for "stealing" her father away from her. One day, her father Shinichi informs her that her younger half-sister Kaya will be marrying her childhood friend and only ally, Kouji Tatsuishi, while Miyo will be marrying Kiyoka Kudou, the head of the Special Anti-Grotesquerie Unit and a man infamous for his coldness towards his fiancée candidates. Miyo goes to Kiyoka's house the next day and meets Yurie, Kiyoka's old nursemaid, and Kiyoka himself, who treats her coldly as she expected. When Miyo attempts to make breakfast for him, he harshly rejects it, accusing her of poisoning it.

After Yurie scolds him and tells him that Miyo is different from the other girls, he apologizes. The next day, Kiyoka eats the breakfast Miyo makes and compliments her, causing her to cry tears of joy because this was the first time someone has ever praised her cooking. Kiyoka becomes curious about Miyo's background, since her behaviour is unlike the daughter of a noble family. He decides to investigate the Saimori family. Miyo, on the other hand, is stunned by Kiyoka's unexpected kindness and worries over what will happen if he learns that she is Giftless.

Meanwhile, Minoru Tatsuishi, the head of the Tatsuishi family, is furious at Shinichi for marrying Miyo to Kiyoka instead of Kouji because he wants the powerful Gift she inherited from her mother Sumi, a member of the Usuba family, to be passed down to his own heirs.
