The First Dinner (初めてのゆうごはん, Hajimete no Yuu Gohan?) is the third chapter of the My Happy Marriage manga adaptation.
Summary[]
Kiyoka's unit is the Special Anti-Grotesquerie Unit, in charge of handling anything related to the Grotesqueries. Almost all members of the unit have Spirit-Sight or an even greater power. As Kiyoka is busy doing paperwork, he remembers what happened earlier that day. Yurie had scolded him after he rejected Miyo's meal, but he countered that he had no reason to trust that she wouldn't poison him and that the Saimori family might be plotting to take his position. Yurie states that Miyo is different from the other fiancees he had before. Kiyoka had ended his engagements with all of them because he couldn't take how conceited they all acted.
Kiyoka thinks back on Miyo's behavior, observing that she acts like a servant. When he returns home, Miyo apologizes for crossing the line and asks for forgiveness. Kiyoka admits that he was too harsh with her, but Miyo insists that everything was her fault. Taking a closer look at her, Kiyoka realizes that she looks too thin and worn to be a noble daughter. He learns that she didn't eat dinner because she wasn't hungry, not knowing that Miyo had gone without dinner many times in her life.
As Kiyoka eats his dinner, he asks her why she is constantly apologizing. Miyo doesn't tell him that it's because of her stepmother and stepsister's constant abuse. Just as Miyo is about to apologize again, Kiyoka tells her to stop because it cheapens the sentiment. Though Miyo still worries about getting thrown out, she now sees that Kiyoka is kinder than he seems. She guesses he doesn't know that she doesn't have a Gift and thinks about how she isn't fit to be his wife.
