Kanoko Saimori (斎森 香乃子, Saimori Kanoko?) is the second wife of Shinichi Saimori, the mother of Kaya Saimori, and the stepmother of Miyo Saimori. She came from an ordinary non-Gifted family. She was Shinichi's lover before he married Sumi Saimori and thus had a particular hatred for Miyo.
Appearance[]
Kanoko is a beautiful-looking woman with dark-brown hair a fringe hanging on the right side and pink eyes.
She has two different hairstyles in the anime and manga:
- In the manga, Kanoko has straight hair tied in a bun.
- The anime gives Kanoko short wavy hair that is more similar in texture to her daughter.

Kanoko is a spiteful and arrogant woman, particularly towards Miyo.
History[]
Kanoko was born in an ordinary family with no special abilities. When she was younger, she and Shinichi fell in love and they became lovers. However, the Saimori family wanted to improve the family's bloodline by arranging a marriage between him and Sumi.
Kanoko was very angry at the turn of events and started resenting Sumi since she saw her as the one standing between her and her lover. When Sumi passed away two years after giving birth to Miyo, Shinichi wasted no time in remarrying Kanoko. A few months after her marriage with Shinichi, Kanoko gave birth to Kaya who had inherited Kanoko's extraordinary beauty and was a quick learner. At the age of three, her daughter demonstrates signs the signature ability of the Gifted, the Spirit-Sight.
One day, while that Miyo was in classes at elementary school, Kanoko decided to throw away the precious memories Miyo had of her mother: kimonos, sashes, accessories and make-up. Miyo headed over to Kanoko’s chamber to ask if she knew anything about the strange disappearance of her belongings, in a rage, she accused Miyo of calling her a thief before punishing her by shutting her in a storehouse at the back of the mansion. While Miyo is trapped in the warehouse, she dismissed Hana, a domestic who took care of Miyo after her mother's death and immediately expelled her from the mansion for defending Miyo.
